…the weary world rejoices.
“A thrill of hope, the weary world rejoices.” Lyrics from my favorite Christmas song. Words that tend to play in my mind over and over this time of year.
Weary seems to be a word that has been unintentionally added to my vocabulary more frequently this year. Weary for the future of our world, weary as a mom when I see the hurt in my kids eyes because of situations they had no control over, weary for the hard situations those around me have walked or are walking through. Weary, a word that reminds me how weak I am on my own and how desperate I am for the hope that is found in Jesus.
So when I hear those lyrics, they are a welcomed reminder of a time in history where the world was given so much hope after waiting hundreds of years for a promised Savior. A Savior who came humbly, at the perfect time, in a messy stable and gave hope to the entire world. It reminds me that no matter how weary I am, no matter how weary the world feels, no matter how weary you are, we have reason to rejoice. We rejoice in knowing that the battle is won, and it started a couple thousand years ago with the birth of Jesus. And I choose to rejoice and to rest in that, and you should too.
